Vancouver, BC – Effective March 7, Continuing Studies will use a different process for handling registration payments over the phone to better protect our students’ financial information. The CS Front Desk will be implementing a new tool, Telepay, that will allow students to submit their credit card information through a secure channel.
“This change is part of Langara’s move to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance,” says Irina Bobovski, Associate Registrar, International Education and Continuing Studies. “These guidelines were developed by the credit card industry to minimize fraud and protect consumer data.”
Going forward, students registering by phone will use Telepay to enter their payment information while remaining on the phone with the CS front desk. To implement this change, the CS front desk recently changed to a phone system provider that is compatible with Telepay.
“We are committed to safeguarding our students’ personal information and following best practices in handling credit card payments” says Bobovski. “This is a positive step in the right direction.”
Registration for the Summer term (May to August) will open on March 14, 2018. Students can contact the CS front desk to register and refer to our frequently asked questions for more information about this change.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How will this change affect me?
If you are registering by phone, either as a new or returning student, expect that the registration process will take a little bit longer to complete. If you are registering online (for returning students) or in person, there will be no change in how you register. Processing refunds will also take some additional time.
2. How will the new process work?
You will contact the CS front desk to register in your courses and programs. Once they have received all the information required to register you, you will use Telepay to enter your payment information. Once you have completed this step, you will be redirected back to the CS Front Desk to complete your registration.
3. Does this mean that previously my credit card information wasn’t safe?
Langara College Continuing Studies has never stored credit card information, so there is no risk of previous credit card information being accessed improperly. There have been no incidents of our students’ payment information being compromised using our previous system. This is a proactive step to better protect students’ information and follow new procedures developed by the credit card and financial industries.
